Alpaca fiber has always been part of a long and unfair value chain. Underprivileged smallholder farmers in the Andes, some in extremely remote areas, sell their alpaca fiber in informal markets in small, local towns to local middlemen. These traders then sell the fiber to larger distributors, who then sell it to larger textile mills. This unfair value chain eats into the income of local farmers and the benefits they can derive from an imperfect system.

MosterMoster had a burning desire to deliver high quality yarn without contributing to this unfair treatment.

MosterMoster's yarn is therefore the result of intensive work and networking, which keeps as much of the production with the local shepherds as possible. Breeding, shearing and more therefore take place directly with the shepherd, to ensure fair and safe treatment of both alpacas and the shepherding community.
